Where to print Lightfall, and how to sell it to a phone
Every print-on-demand and pro-lab option the research team could verify for metal, canvas, fine-art paper, framed prints, acrylic, wood, glass and printed objects, plus how to sell phone and desktop wallpapers. Every fact has a numbered source you can open. Anything that is my arithmetic or my judgement is labelled that way.
Prices change. "Wholesale" here means what Lightfall would pay the printer; "retail" means what a shopper pays. Unless a row says otherwise, prices exclude tax and shipping.
The answer, first
Use Prodigi as the one fulfilment engine, because it is the only provider verified to have a documented API with a free sandbox that "will not fulfil your orders, and you will not be charged", plus a quote endpoint for exact prices [220], fully white-label shipping [223], and nearly every product family on this page [117]. That is already the plan in SPEC §4. Use a US pro lab (WHCC or Bay Photo) as the quality yardstick and for anything Jake signs by hand: no provider page was found that supports hand-signing a drop-shipped print, so signed editions have to come to Jake first.
The price ranges below are my recommendations, not sourced facts. Each one shows the verified costs and market prices it was built from, and the arithmetic, so you can disagree with the reasoning rather than the numbers.
Fine-art paper (the flagship)
- Pick
- Prodigi, Hahnemühle German Etching (310gsm, the paper /prints already names): wholesale from £3.00, 72h production, made in the UK/EU/US/AU, ships worldwide [77].
- Runner-up
- theprintspace / creativehub: same paper among seven, 16x20 giclée $34.20 on the product page [85] ($37.70 on its price list, which says it includes a 20% dropship uplift [86]); edition numbers synced to stock and five certificate designs [90]; ships from London, New York and Berlin [92].
- Market prices seen
- 20x200, one Dorothea Lange print ("I Am an American"): 8x10 $40, 11x14 $85, 16x20 $275 [248]. James Maher (NYC, signed, with certificate): 7x9 $150, 12x18 $325, 24x36 $625 [247]. Opinion: "$1 per square inch" as a starting point [252].
- Recommended retail
- Open edition 8x10 to 11x14: $45 to $90. Signed limited edition 12x18 to 16x20: $175 to $325. 24x36 (Sony files only): $450 to $650.
- Why
- The open range sits on that one 20x200 listing (a famous photographer, so a generous anchor); the limited range sits between the $1-per-square-inch opinion (16x20 = $320) and Maher's NYC prices. Arithmetic at $250 for a 16x20: $37.70 print + up to $29 UPS Ground [86] + Shopify card fee 2.9% + 30¢ = $7.55 [215] leaves about $175 before tax and overheads.
Metal
- Pick
- Prodigi aluminium: ChromaLuxe panel, dye-sublimation, 4x5 to 30x40, 48h, wholesale from £16.27 [1] (the PDF says from $22.00 [2]). Ships to the US only.
- Yardstick with public prices
- WHCC 16x20: $100 print only, $116 with float mount, free shipping, $7.95 unbranded drop ship [8]. Bay Photo 16x20: $88.75 print only, $101.25 with float hanger [9], drop ship with no fee [59]. Lumaprints 16x20 $82.46 [6]; Printful 16x20 $80.06, US only [4].
- Market prices seen
- Nations Photo Lab 16x20 $134.75, 24x36 $299.75 [17]. Shutterfly 16x20 from $129.99 to $214.99 before its sale [20].
- Recommended retail
- 16x20: $250 to $400. 24x36: $500 to $750, and only from Sony files.
- Why
- Consumer labs sell a 16x20 metal of anyone's snapshot for $130 to $215; an artist's print with a certificate should sit clearly above that. Arithmetic at $300: WHCC $116 + $7.95 drop ship = $123.95, card fee $9.00, leaves about $167. An iPhone file at 24x36 is only 112 PPI (see your files).
Canvas
- Pick
- Prodigi stretched canvas: 38mm bars, 400gsm, wholesale from £14.00, 48 to 120h, made in AU/EU/UK/US [29].
- Public prices
- 16x20: Gooten $16.42 (US shipping from $5.99) [49]; Lumaprints 1.25in $25.95 [6]; Printful $28.56 [39].
- Market prices seen
- None verified. The team did not capture a retail canvas benchmark.
- Recommended retail
- 16x20: $150 to $250.
- Why
- Canvas costs about a third of metal at the same size (Printful 16x20: $28.56 canvas vs $80.06 metal [39][4]), so it can be the lower wall-art tier. Arithmetic at $175 with Gooten: $16.42 + $5.99 shipping + $5.38 card fee leaves about $147.
- The catch
- With no verified retail benchmark, this range is the weakest number on the page. Check it against real shops before using it.
Framed
- Pick
- Prodigi classic frames (from £16.00) or box frames (from £19.00), glazed with Perspex, float glass or moth-eye anti-reflective acrylic, 72h, UK/EU/US/AU [78][79]. Moth-eye: "UV protection of up to 99.99%" [81].
- Alternatives
- theprintspace solid-wood FSC frames, museum glass option, ready in 10 working days [89][88]. Lumaprints (US) 8x10 framed: $20.08 without a mat, $25.69 with a 1in mat [107].
- Market prices seen
- WhiteWall framed with a mat: from $99.95 retail [96]. Opinion: double the framing cost [252].
- Recommended retail
- Unframed price plus $45 (8x10) to $150 (16x20).
- Why
- Lumaprints' 8x10 frame and mat ($25.69) adds about $20 over its 8x10 paper print ($3.19 to $6.22 [106]); doubling that gives about $45. Bigger frames cost more, so the add-on grows with size.
- The catch
- Prodigi's pages disagree on which papers go in its frames. The frame-papers page lists four, including German Etching, and not Photo Rag [80]. Confirm in the dashboard before listing framed SKUs.
Acrylic, wood, glass
- Pick
- Prodigi acrylic panels: giclée mounted to 10mm acrylic, from $17.00, 8x8 to 24x48, 192h (eight days) [34]. Wood: Prodigi maple, US only [35].
- Yardstick
- Bay Photo 8x10 acrylic $57.00 (paper back) or $79.00 (DiBond), with a non-glare option [57], against Bay 8x10 metal at $25.99 [9]. WHCC wood 16x20 $119 [54].
- Recommended retail
- Acrylic: at or above the metal prices. Wood: with canvas. Glass: skip for now.
- Why
- At Bay Photo, acrylic costs about twice metal at 8x10. No print-on-demand API was found for real glass; Fracture sells glass retail from $85 and describes no API or drop ship [67].
Other objects
- Worth doing
- A photo book through Lulu's free Print API (photo book from $14.76; $0.75 fulfilment fee per order) [143][144][145], or Prodigi layflat from £18.02 [122]. Postcards: Printful $1.53 [135]; Prodigi from £0.40 but made in the UK only [118].
- Opinions to weigh
- For: "Merch solves for the $1-$100 price range" [156]. Against over-supply: more prints than the stated edition "will quickly devalue your work" [158].
- Recommended retail
- No range. No retail benchmark for books, postcards or puzzles was verified, so any number would be a guess.
- Why
- Keep to one or two objects that feel like Lightfall (a book, a postcard set carrying the certificate). Mugs, cases and pillows are verified to exist but are off-brand, and that part is my judgement.
Digital phone prints
- What to sell
- One download per photograph with crops for the tallest iPhones (1320 × 2868) [159], Pixel 11 Pro XL (1344 × 2992) [160], Galaxy S25 Ultra (1440 × 3120) [161], iPad, and a 5K desktop (5120 × 2880, Sony files only) [163].
- How to sell
- First test Shopify's free Digital Products app (5 GB files) [169][170] with the headless checkout. If it doesn't work there, use Lemon Squeezy, a merchant of record that charges 5% + 50¢ and handles sales tax [175].
- Market prices seen
- $2.49 for 10 wallpapers [185]; $3.00 for 12+ [186]; $3.75 bundle [188]; $10.00 for 20 images in iPhone, iPad and Mac sizes [187]; Vellum app Premium $2.99 [189].
- Recommended retail
- $4 per photograph (every device size). $12 to $15 for a collection of ten or more.
- Why
- Packs sell for $2.49 to $10; a single Lightfall image with its certificate of light is worth more per image, and less than a pack. Fixed fees eat cheap sales: at $4, Lemon Squeezy's 5% + 50¢ is $0.70 (17.5%); at $2 it would be $0.60 (30%). NY treats electronically delivered photographs as not taxable in the opinion it issued to one photographer [207].
- Bold idea
- Include the phone print free with every physical print: it costs nothing to deliver and puts the photograph in the buyer's pocket the day they order. Judgement, untested.
Words used here
- Print on demand (POD)
- A printer makes each item only after a customer orders it, then ships it. No stock to hold.
- Pro lab
- A photo lab built for professional photographers (WHCC, Bay Photo). In the labs checked here, US-based, with fewer store integrations than print-on-demand companies (my generalisation, not a sourced claim).
- White label / blind shipping
- The box and paperwork show your brand, or nothing, and never the printer's name.
- Drop ship
- The printer sends the order straight to your customer instead of to you.
- Wholesale vs retail
- Wholesale is what you pay the printer. Retail is what your customer pays you.
- Giclée
- A fine-art inkjet print made with pigment inks, usually on cotton or other archival paper.
- C-type
- A traditional photographic print: light exposes chemically developed photo paper.
- Dye-sublimation
- Heat turns special inks into gas that bonds into a coated metal panel. That's how ChromaLuxe metal prints are made.
- ChromaLuxe
- A brand of coated aluminium panel made for dye-sublimation. Many labs print on it.
- Dibond
- A rigid sandwich of two thin aluminium sheets around a plastic core. It can be printed directly or used as a backing.
- Face-mounted acrylic
- A print glued behind a clear acrylic sheet, so you look at it through the plastic.
- Glazing
- The clear front of a frame: glass or acrylic, sometimes anti-reflective or UV-blocking.
- gsm
- Grams per square metre. Paper weight; higher usually means thicker.
- DPI / PPI
- Dots or pixels per inch. How many image pixels land on each inch of the print. More means sharper up close.
- ICC profile / soft-proofing
- A file describing how a printer and paper reproduce colour. Loading it lets your screen preview the print.
- sRGB, Adobe RGB, Display P3
- Colour spaces: the range of colours a file can describe. iPhone HEIC files use Display P3, which is wider than sRGB.
- API / sandbox
- An API lets the website place orders by code. A sandbox is a test copy that neither prints nor charges.
- Headless
- Lightfall's own pages are the shop front, and Shopify runs only the cart, checkout and orders behind them.
- Merchant of record (MoR)
- The company legally making the sale. When a platform is the MoR, it collects and pays the sales tax, not you.
- Certificate of Authority
- New York's sales-tax registration. You need it before making taxable sales.
- Open vs limited edition
- Open means unlimited copies. Limited means a stated maximum, usually numbered and signed.
- COA
- Certificate of authenticity: a signed document saying the print is genuine.
Metal prints
Two different technologies are sold as "metal". Dye-sublimation on a coated aluminium panel (ChromaLuxe): ChromaLuxe makes gloss, semi-gloss and matte finishes in white or clear, where clear lets the brushed metal show through [15]. Direct inkjet or UV printing onto Dibond: Prodigi's Dibond comes in matt, gloss or lustre, WhiteWall's is matte with a slight sheen in highlights, and CEWE prints direct onto 3mm Dibond [3][22][23].

Durability: Lumaprints says its colour "won't fade for over 100 years" and ChromaLuxe says "Archival Quality", but neither page cites a test lab [7][15]. The only independent-sounding figure is a 2016 press release written by ChromaLuxe: a Wilhelm Imaging Research display rating of 65 years (Epson UltraChrome DS inks) or 64 years (Sawgrass), for genuine ChromaLuxe only [16]. Artifact Uprising's wall-art page lists no metal prints [28].
Canvas
Canvas is printed on a woven cotton or poly-cotton sheet and wrapped around a wooden stretcher frame. Depth (0.75in, 1.25in, 1.5in) is how far it stands off the wall.

Discontinued at Prodigi, so don't plan around them: Hahnemühle Photo Lustre [83] and Swoop frames with Tru Vue Museum Glass [82].
Limited editions and certificates
- creativehub syncs edition numbers with the store's stock, marks sold numbers, retires a print when it sells out, and offers five certificate designs plus a printed digital signature [90]. Its Shopify app is rated 4.0/5 from 47 reviews, 17% of them one-star (opinion) [93].
- WhiteWall's help centre only says to use Shopify's inventory count per variant; it doesn't mention numbering or certificates [98].
- Hahnemühle certificates: A4 watermarked mould-made paper with 25 sheets and 50 serialised holograms (one on the certificate, its twin on the back of the print) [110]. FinerWorks sells a single one for $7.95, or 10 for $59.95 [109].
- Lightfall's own "Certificate of Light" could be the certificate itself. Market practice seen: NYC Limited Edition sells editions "of 5", signed, numbered, with a certificate, and all sales final [251]; Magnum ran a one-week 6x6 sale that will "never be made available in this format again" [249].

Digital prints: wallpapers for phone, tablet and desktop
A "digital print" here means a high-resolution file, cropped to a device's screen, that a buyer downloads and sets as their lock screen or desktop. You make each crop once from the master photograph, and delivery is a download link.

- On iOS 26, iPhone 12 and later can turn some photos into 3D spatial wallpapers. The best candidates have good light, clear subject separation, or landscape orientation [167]. iOS 17 and later can use a Live Photo as the Lock Screen [168], but no Apple page says how to deliver one from a website (unverified).
- The Apple Watch Photos face takes up to 24 photos [166], so a small "watch set" is possible.

Pricing benchmarks
- Photographic iPhone wallpaper packs: $2.49 for 10 (personal use only) [185]; $3.00 for 12+ [186]; $3.75 bundle [188]; $10.00 for 20 images in iPhone, iPad and Mac sizes, all sales final [187].
- Vellum Wallpapers app: free with a $2.99 Premium (the last four weeks of daily wallpapers); 4.8 stars from 55K ratings [189].
- Commercial licences cost much more, which is why buyers must not be able to reuse a $4 wallpaper commercially: iStock $2.90 to $7.00 a download on plans, $12 for a single credit [190]; Adobe Stock 10 credits $29.99/month [191]; Unsplash+ $20/month [193].
Licensing
- Sell a personal-use licence: "for personal use only", as the wallpaper sellers above do [185]. Adobe Stock's split is a useful model: a standard licence may not be used to make merchandise for resale where the image is the main value, and an extended licence allows it [192].
- Keep saleable images off free stock sites. The Unsplash License lets anyone use a photo commercially without asking, and only forbids selling it "without significant modification" [194].
How a buyer previews it on their phone
- Draw Lightfall's own generic phone frame for mockups. Apple's device bezels are licensed only for apps on the App Store, only for Apple Developer Program members, and may not be altered [195].
- A "Send to my phone" button can use the Web Share API. It shares files, needs HTTPS and a tap, and works in iOS Safari 12.2+, Safari 12.1+, Samsung Internet 8.2+ and Chrome desktop 128+, but not Firefox desktop [196][197]. Whether iOS offers "Save Image" for a shared file is unverified.
- Simplest preview that always works: an on-page lock-screen mockup at the real screen ratio (1320 × 2868), with the clock drawn over the photo. This is my suggestion, not a sourced practice.
Protection
- Adobe Content Authenticity (free, public beta) adds Content Credentials to up to 50 JPG or PNG files at once, survives screenshots through invisible watermarks, and records a "do not train AI" preference. It gives attribution, not copy prevention [198].
- Paid watermark tracking (IMATAG Monitor) starts at €299/month [199], which is too much at Lightfall's scale (my judgement). Payhip's buyer stamping works only on PDFs [179].
How it plugs into Lightfall: checkout, APIs, returns
Headless Shopify and fulfilment
- With custom (headless) storefronts, customers browse, add to a cart and "check out using the Shopify Checkout", and merchants can add fulfilment tools to Shopify to process those orders [216]. Since 17 January 2025 each headless storefront is its own sales channel with its own publishing and order attribution [217]. Fulfilment-service apps each get a dedicated location and can accept or reject fulfilment requests [218].
- Prodigi's own Shopify integration: select a product and upload artwork for automatic fulfilment [221]. The original Prodigi app listing says it "is not currently available on the Shopify App Store" [37]; the newer listing charges $55/month or $564/year for Pro and is rated 1.0/5 from 2 reviews (opinion) [38]. A Storefront API plus Print API build needs neither app. Prodigi also takes orders by manual form and CSV importer [133].
- WHCC's Shopify integration: "Every order that reaches WHCC is a real order", so test orders are charged [55]. Drop-ship boxes have no invoice and no WHCC name, and separate orders can't be combined [56]. Bay Photo offers white-label drop shipping and unbranded mockup files; its first-order discount shows as both 30% and 25% on the same page [12].
- APIs: Printful uses a Bearer token with a 120-calls-per-minute limit [229]. Printify allows 600 requests a minute and personal tokens last one year [230]. Lumaprints issues an API key after registration and needs a payment method and billing address before orders [47]. theprintspace's API has dispatch and tracking webhooks and debits production costs during fulfilment [91], with "100% white labeled" delivery in 2 to 5 business days [73].
When something arrives wrong
- Prodigi: "We do not accept returns of unwanted items"; if a print has to come back because of Prodigi's error, it handles the return and refund at its own expense [226]. All US orders are tracked, and an order not received within 30 days of being placed is replaced [225].
- Gelato: report within 30 days of receiving the item for a replacement, or a refund if a replacement isn't possible; colour variation within tolerance isn't covered, and there are no returns because items are made to order [243]. It delivers to 200+ countries with local production in 32 [245].
- Printify: a reprint for a misprinted or damaged item, then a full refund to the Printify account within 1 business day if the reprint also fails [246]. Printify says all its puzzles are printed in the US [142].
- Lightfall's own policy has to match the weakest link: if the printer takes no returns for change of mind, a "30-day returns" promise is money out of Jake's pocket.

- LUMAS sorts its New York pictures into under US$250, US$250 to US$1000, and from US$1000, with a 60-day return policy [250].
- Opinion: "Low prices set low expectations" [253]. Opinion: limiting an edition guarantees a collector's print "will never be diminished by an unexpected supply of identical prints" [157].
- Cheaper photo papers for small items: Bay Photo Lustre from $0.99 [103]; WhiteWall Fuji Crystal DP II from $6.95 retail [95]. Gooten framed canvas comes in six frame finishes from 8x10 to 30x40, with no prices shown [50]. Lulu wall calendars are 11x8.5, run up to 18 months, and take sRGB files at 300 dpi [146].
- Housekeeping: Printful's prices changed on 27 August 2026 [140]; the Prodigi Pro FAQ says there's no free trial or minimum term and it can be cancelled [84]; the a7 III's 24.2 MP / 6000 × 4000 also matches a third-party spec database [241].
Tax and legal, New York
Not legal or tax advice. These are the verified rules and the questions to take to an accountant and a lawyer.
Physical prints: register before the first sale
- Anyone selling taxable goods, even from home or only once a year, must register through New York Business Express before starting [202]. Apply for the Certificate of Authority at least 20 days before you begin; you can't legally make taxable sales until you have it [203].
- Selling without one: up to $500 for the first day plus up to $200 a day after, to a maximum of $10,000 [204].
- It's a destination tax: 4% state plus the local rate, plus 0.375% in the Metropolitan Commuter Transportation District; sales delivered outside New York State are exempt [205]. NYC311 gives New York City's total as 8.875% [210]. The state's own current rate table (Publication 718) could not be read, so confirm a rate with the address lookup [211].
- Shipping and handling you charge on a taxable print is taxable too [203].
- Quarterly returns are due 20 June, 20 September, 20 December and 20 March, even with no sales [203]. Selling through a marketplace that collects tax still requires a Certificate of Authority and returns [206].
- Tools: Shopify Tax is free for the first $100,000 of sales, then 0.35% per US order capped at $0.99 (for stores created on or after 13 May 2026 the $100,000 is a lifetime total) [212]. Stripe Tax Complete, which includes filings, starts at $90/month [214]. Shopify Managed Markets makes Global-e the merchant of record for international orders only [213].
Digital prints
- In an advisory opinion to a New York City freelance photographer, the Tax Department said photographs "embodied in a digital format and delivered electronically" are not tangible property, whether transferred permanently or temporarily, while prints on paper or a physical format are taxable if delivered in NY. The opinion binds the Department only for that petitioner [207]. An earlier opinion reached the same answer for drawings emailed as PDFs [208].
- But if Lightfall sold a wallpaper app, prewritten software is taxable in NY however it's delivered [209].
- Other states differ: "Some states tax all digital goods, others exempt them entirely" [174]. Selling to EU consumers from outside the EU can use the non-Union One Stop Shop with one EU country [200][201]. Merchants of record say they take this on: Lemon Squeezy lists "Global sales tax & compliance handled for you" [175] and Gumroad says it handles sales tax collection and remittance worldwide [176].
Limited editions (New York Arts and Cultural Affairs Law)
- An art merchant may not sell a multiple (prints and photographs included) for more than $100, not counting the frame, in, into or from New York without a written instrument [114]. It must disclose the artist, signature, medium or process, when it was produced and the edition size, and proofs may not exceed the edition by more than 20 or 20%, whichever is greater [115].
- Online listings must show that information close to the item description, or give the statutory notice and supply it before or with delivery [114]. Whether a photographer selling his own prints counts as an "art merchant" isn't settled by the definitions [116]. Ask a lawyer.
How big can each of your files print?
PPI when the photo is cropped to fill the print: the smaller of (short side pixels ÷ short side inches) and (long side pixels ÷ long side inches). This is arithmetic. File sizes come from the brief; the iPhone 15 Pro Max has a 48MP main camera [242]; the a7 III shoots 6000 × 4000 at 3:2 with about 24,200,000 effective pixels [240][239].
| Print size | iPhone original 3024 × 4032 | iPhone large file 4284 × 5712 | iPhone crop 2268 × 4032 | Sony a7 III 6000 × 4000 |

| 12 × 18 in | 224 · good | 317 · ideal | 189 · good | 333 · ideal |

Lab guidance: Prodigi says 300 dpi is ideal and adds 3mm of bleed automatically [228]; Printful says 150 DPI is the sweet spot [234]; WHCC prints most products at 300 DPI and resizes files itself [235]; Bay Photo's minimum column lists 16x20 at 1200 × 1500 [236]; Nations' chart gives 16x20 at 2000 × 2500 / 2880 × 3600 / 4800 × 6000 [237]. In practice: iPhone originals top out around 16x20 to 18x24; the 2268 × 4032 crop should stay at 12x18 or smaller; large metal and 24x36 paper should wait for the Sony (my judgement from the table).
Colour management
- iPhone HEIC files are in Display P3, a wider colour range than sRGB [238]. Each lab wants something different:
- Printful: standard sRGB (IEC61966-2.1) [234]. WHCC: tagged P3, Adobe RGB and sRGB "are all great options"; JPEG quality 90% in Lightroom [235]. Bay Photo: 8-bit RGB only, sRGB or Adobe RGB; ProPhoto may not reproduce [236]. Lumaprints metal: Adobe RGB, 300 DPI, 100 MB max, 1/8 to 1/4in may be cropped from the edges [7].
- Prodigi offers a downloadable ICC profile for its aluminium prints [1], and WhiteWall offers one for soft-proofing [21]. Hahnemühle Certified Studios must run full colour management with custom or Hahnemühle ICC profiles [111].
- Suggested workflow (judgement): keep a 16-bit master; export an 8-bit sRGB JPEG per lab, and an Adobe RGB one only where the lab asks; soft-proof with the lab's ICC profile; order a physical sample before listing any product.
Next steps, in order
- Create a free Prodigi account and use the sandbox
POST /v4.0/quotesto get exact per-size costs without being charged [220]. That closes the biggest gap on this page. (Account creation is Jake's call, per SPEC §8.) - Order samples. Prodigi refunds 50% of the total delivered cost of a first custom sample, one of each product type; a sample pack is £10 + tax with free shipping [227]. Bay Photo's five-surface metal pack is $33.99 [10]. Gelato gives 30% off (max €50) if ordered within 48 hours of signup [244].
- Apply for the NY Certificate of Authority at least 20 days before the first physical sale [203].
- Test the digital download path in a Shopify dev store through the headless checkout. The Shopify help page doesn't mention headless [170].
- Ask an accountant about digital photograph taxability outside the one advisory opinion, and a lawyer about limited-edition disclosures.
Risks, gaps and things not verified
- Prodigi per-size prices for every product are not published without an account; only "from" prices appear here. Its maple wood "from" price is $12.00 in the PDF and £8.87 on the web page.
- Prodigi aluminium and maple wood ship to the US only, and several objects (postcards, puzzles) are made in the UK only. A global metal offer needs a second provider.
- Gelato product pages returned 403 or a Cloudflare challenge every time. No Gelato prices are verified, which is a real gap: it is a major Prodigi competitor.
- Etsy fees, Fine Art America/Pixels, MetalPrints.com, Snapfish, Vistaprint, Loxley, Picfair and Mixam were blocked or not researched.
- Headless Shopify: no print-on-demand app and no Digital Products page says it works with a Storefront API checkout. It needs a real test order.
- Conflicting numbers: Printful's marketing page says metal prints "start at $38.71", but the cheapest size in its catalog API (8x10) is $39.48; theprintspace giclée 16x20 is $34.20 on the product page and $37.70 on the price list; Bay Photo's first-order discount shows as both 25% and 30%; Printify's Premium discount is "up to 33% on new products" on one page and "up to 20% off all products" on another.
- Prodigi frame papers are listed differently on different Prodigi pages (four papers on the frame-papers page, seven in the ICC section, "5 paper types" in the headline).
- Trade vs retail: WHCC and Bay Photo pages don't say whether their prices are photographer or public prices, or whether an account changes them.
- Pictorem prices were visible, but the currency (CAD or USD) couldn't be confirmed.
- Shipping costs for Prodigi, Lumaprints, Printful 16x20 canvas and most metal sizes were not captured. Every margin above excludes the ones not shown.
- Archival claims: the only rating is a 10-year-old, vendor-issued press release. There are no independent ratings for UV-direct Dibond or for Lumaprints' "100+ years".
- Hand-signing: no provider page found says it supports hand-signing a drop-shipped print (an absence, not a confirmed "no"). Signed editions add a shipping leg through Jake.
- NYC tax rate: 8.875% comes from NYC311; the state's Publication 718 couldn't be read. Publication 750 checked was the 11/15 edition.
- Certificate of Authority fee and processing time were not found.
- EU OSS threshold (the €10,000 figure) was not found on the fetched EU pages; Lemon Squeezy and Paddle acceptance of photo downloads is unverified; Lemon Squeezy's "small additional fees" have no published amounts.
- Live Photo and spatial wallpaper delivery from a website, iOS "Save Image" from a web share, and Apple's depth-effect requirements: no Apple documentation found.
- Time-limited promotions seen on 13 to 14 September 2026 (Bay Photo 15% to 16 Sept, Mpix 30% to 15 Sept, Nations 25% code, Saal acrylic to 21 Sept) will expire. Printful updated its prices on 27 August 2026.
- The web search budget ran out (200 of 200 searches) during fact-checking, so some gaps could only be closed from known URLs.
- The menu test: this page is deliberately not in the site menu, so src/lib/site/menu.test.ts (M3, and M4's aria-current check) will report it on the next build.

Six research areas (metal; canvas, acrylic, wood and glass; paper and framing; other objects; digital; pricing and business) each had a researcher and then an adversarial fact-checker. The fact-checker re-fetched every page, corrected wrong figures, and dropped anything it couldn't see on the page. 69 claims were rejected and none of them appear here. Some of the 297 records are the same page checked by two areas.
Pages were fetched on 13 September 2026 and re-checked just after midnight, so some carry 14 September 2026; each source shows its own date. Blogs and app-store reviews are used only for opinions and are labelled "(opinion)". Anything computed from verified numbers (margins, PPI, fees on a $4 sale, crop sizes) is labelled arithmetic; price recommendations are labelled judgement.
